Stats Insight of the Day: Spring Training Home Run Leaders

With Spring Training games comes the excitement of the baseball season starting up again. However, teams and players who do well in Spring Training may lead their fans into a false sense of hope as to how their season will turn out. Just because a player has an excellent preseason does not mean that it will carry over into the regular season. Taking a look at home run leaders since 2008, only three out of the 11 home run leaders hit 30 or more home runs during the regular season. Of the 11 home run leaders, the average home run total for the regular season was just 15. The following chart gives the home run leaders each year since 2008.
