Brooklyn Nets

BSports Projections: 52-30; 1st in Atlantic Division; 62.0% chance to win Atlantic Division; 98.6% chance to make Playoffs; 11.1% chance to win Eastern Conference; 5.5% chance to win NBA Finals

The Brooklyn Nets are expected to be the most improved team in the Atlantic Division as Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett solidify one of the best starting lineups in the NBA. In particular, the addition of Garnett should have a major impact on the team’s defense, which was a weakness last season.

The leader on the team is Deron Williams, and to set the tone he has to open the season in great shape. Last season he seemed to wear down late in games, as his field goal percentage on two point jumpers declined each quarter, from 44% in the opening quarter to 35% in the fourth quarter.

The Nets will also be very much a half court offense, as their 9 points per game on the fastbreak last season should not improve much, even as it ranked as the second worst in the NBA. The Nets are an even older team this season, which suggests that they are playing to win now. It will take some good luck when it comes to the health of the aging veterans, for this team to make good on its 62% chance of winning the Atlantic Division.
